Mooncup Reusable Menstrual Cup

The healthy alternative to tampons.

The Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup, around two inches long and made from soft medical grade silicone. It is worn internally a lot lower than a tampon but, while tampons and pads absorb menstrual fluid, the Mooncup collects it. This means it doesn’t cause dryness or irritation, and also that it collects far more (three times as much as a ‘super-absorbent’ tampon’!). Because the Mooncup is reusable, you only need one so it saves you money and helps the environment, too.

The Mooncup is designed to be folded and inserted into the vagina, then removed, rinsed and reinserted up to every 8 hours. A light seal is formed with your vaginal walls, allowing menstrual fluid to pass into the Mooncup without leakage or odour. This seal is released for removal, allowing you to empty the contents, rinse or wipe and reinsert. Comfortable, convenient and safe: the Mooncup can be used overnight and when travelling, swimming or exercising.

Which size?
The Mooncup is available in two sizes:‘A’ and ‘B’. Size A measures 46mm in diameter and 50mm in length. Size B measures 43 mm in diameter and 50mm in length. Both sizes have a pull stem 21mm long, which you can trim to the length that is right for you.

Sizing is based on pelvic floor tone, not menstrual flow, and it’s important to get the sizing right to get the best from your Mooncup. Pelvic floor tone will vary according to your age, childbearing history and what sort of exercise you do. Corrective surgery to the vagina will also have implications. Check the guidelines to see which size you need:

Size A
Because vaginal and pelvic floor tones naturally reduce with age, the size ‘A’ Mooncup is recommended for women aged 30 or over. The difference between the ‘A’ and the ‘B’ is only small (3mm), but it is crucial! Size ‘A’ is also recommended for all women who have given birth vaginally, regardless of age.

Size B
Designed for young girls and women under the age of 30 who have not given birth vaginally. It may also be suitable for women over the age of 30 who have had corrective surgery to the vagina, or who are advanced in tone-maintaining activities.

Since I have been using this mooncup my periods have become much comfortable for me! There are no problems like pain or leeks...

This is my first review on feelunique.com but I felt compelled to write one. I have always hated my period, pads were messy and awful and I just could never get the hang of tampons. I could only insert them when lying down and I felt like they pushed themselves out by the end of the day and leaked everywhere. This is my second day on the mooncup. I had to trim the entire stalk off for more comfort but oh my, I have never felt this free or clean during my period ever!! I cannot feel it inside me, you can leave it in for way longer than you can a tampon and not a single droplet of a leak. Plus these are deceptively easy to insert, you know they're in correctly when you feel the little suction pop. Perfect.. I managed to completely forget I was on my period at work today. Like one of those adverts on tv where the girls are flying around on motorbikes on their period with big happy smiles on their faces. I thought it was false advertising but it's true in this case! I'm happy, my boyfriend's happy that I am less likely to turn into a psycho during this time of my month, you save money, it's environmentally friendly, everybody wins. Just dumped all my tampons and pads on my flatmate, will definitely be buying one for my best friend. Thank you Mooncup for making one week every month SO much more bearable :)
