Vivienne Westwood was born in Derbyshire in 1941, but moved to Harrow in London with her family at the age of 17. She studied at the Harrow School of Art, but left after one term to pursue a career as a primary school teacher, whilst also producing and selling her own jewellery on Portobello Road. She met Malcolm McLaren, manager of the Sex Pistols, in the late 60s, and he opened a fashion boutique on the Kings Road for which Vivienne designed clothes inspired by bikers and the punk movement. The designs gained notoriety as the Sex Pistols were seen wearing them during gigs, and the two became synonymous with the Punk scene in the 70s. Vivienne Westwood continues to design clothing from her London boutique, and also offers a range of fragrances.
