LFW SS13: Our Winner's Blog - Renita Gandecha

When feelunique.com rang me about winning tickets to
see Mark Fast at LFW SS13, I could not contain my
excitement! The thought of seeing Mark Fast's designs
on the catwalk, seriously excited me.

So, what's the big deal, you ask? All of his designs are knitted by hand on a domestic sewing machine and are literally shaped onto the body as he knits. His passion for mixing natural fibres with lycra yarns is shown in his creations by how well they silhouette the body, often creating a perfect outline of the womanly body.

For those who don't know much about Mark Fast
- here's the 401:

  • Designer Mark Fast is of Canadian origin and is 30 years old.
  • He studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and graduated from his Masters in 2008.
  • He is well-known throughout the Fashion stratosphere; His designs are worn by the likes of Nicki Minaj and Rihanna.

Mark Fast SS13

It wasn't too long after getting the call that the date of Monday 17th September had arrived! Once my guest and I had settled into our suite at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge, we soon made our way to Somerset House. I then met Beauty Writer Dena Mohamed outside the entrance of the British Fashion Council Courtyard where the Mark Fast show was due to take place in just over an hour - so we swiftly made our way into backstage area B.

As soon we get got in, notepads and cameras went flying out! Dena and I were amongst beauty writers and journalists scribbling what Nick Irwin, the Global Creative Director of TIGI, had to say about creating the look for Mark Fast.

We then heard from Head Make-up Artist for the show, Sharon Dowsett on how she created her 'party girl' look. She stated that as Mark Fast "wanted to have fun this season", and as the theme was hip-hop chic, she wanted to keep the make-up looking simple and fresh.

The show itself, although fashionably late to start, was thoroughly enjoyable and definitely reminded me of the 'hot and Parisian nights' and 'boisterous thumping hip hop beats' that Mark described in his press release. I loved the hugging knits, fringed capes and use of wool and metallic lace together. The designs definitely reminded me of the fusion of hip hop chic and sportswear. Also, who could forget the Christian Louboutins that each model had to wear on the catwalk - they definitely completed the look!
