Want to modernise your manicure? Here are five simple colour swaps for summer...
By Alice Manning
Swap your nude for a pastel pink
You can thank Kate Moss and her multiple Vogue covers for this one. “This pink is opaque and babydoll Sixties-esque,” says manicurist Michelle Humphrey. “The opaque texture can look streaky so apply two thin layers and add a third coat if necessary,” she explains.
These colours can make you look washed out so dust a light layer of Guerlain’s Terracotta Moisturising Bronzing Powder over hands, knuckles and fingers. The subtle shimmer gives an instant golden glow.
Jacava’s Pink Whisper Nail Polish - the perfect chalky pink and the high-glossy formula dries quickly.
Swap your exotic nail art for 'The Ring Finger' manicure
Say goodbye to motif designs, this season is all about the ‘ring finger manicure’. “Wearing a different colour on your fourth finger is fun, chic and definitely here to stay,” says Humphrey. Go for solid colours without any glitter or sparkle to keep it grown up.
“Play around with different shades and you can also introduce the chosen colour on your thumb too, if you really want to up your game,” says Humphrey.
Swap your bright for a neon
Colour is exploding and a polish that pops on your skin will compliment your tan and all-white summer wardrobe. “It’s all about loud, unexpected shades,” says Humphrey. “Nail polish comes off so easily so experiment with blues, lime greens and acid yellows.”
Bright tones suit short, oval nails as they have such an impact on their own. If you’re colour shy, apply to your toes until you feel fearless enough to wear on your fingers.
Swap your blood red for a navy blue
As sophisticated as this dark red may be, navy blue is the shade for summer. “It’s nice and nautical, universally flattering and a great option for those that want to wear darker colours in the summer,” explains Humphrey.
Team this deep blue hue with a nude pedicure - the chicest colour combo ever.
Our favourite... Jessica’s Nail Colour in Dark Side of the Moon - this deep indigo has skin-flattering shimmering tones.
