easy steps to
stay motivated this month
Whether the big plan was to lose weight or get fit (or both) by now the motivation is flagging and your get-up-and-go has long gone. Here are some simple ways to get you inspired and back on track.
At the end of each day actively think of one achievement, no matter how small (you drank more water, walked up the escalator) rather than focussing on all the failures (you ate some biscuits, had a hot choc rather than a herbal tea). Just one small achievement every day quickly adds up.
Workout Your Perfect
Just because Gywneth, your best friend or your neighbour swears by a workout it doesn’t mean you will. Find something you love and you will stay with it; do you prefer indoor or outside? Classes or solo? Personal trainer or group teacher? Fast and furious Spinning or slow and stretchy Yoga?
Research shows that changing into our fitness kit is actually harder than getting to the gym,
‘so invest in new trainers and the right workout great that makes you feel good,’
says Jamie Baird, head trainer at the Sanderson Hotel, thefitnesscoach.com.
‘Commit yourself by writing all workouts, classes, runs etc in your diary for the next month,’ advises Baird. This ensures you make the time to work out.
‘If you lose 10lbs then give yourself half a day at the spa, drop a dress size, then buy a new dress – you are doing this for yourself so do reward yourself,’
Be kind to yourself and opt for warm soups not cold salads and juices while the weather is wintry. And remember a massage or face mask while relaxing in the bath is still doing you good.
