How to get the right tan tone for your skin tone…
It’s one of the questions we most commonly get asked when it comes to self-tan, and so here’s our definitive guide to get you started…
If you have… FAIR SKIN, You need a… GRADUAL
CELEBRITY ICONS… Mollie King, Miranda Kerr, Taylor Swift
Gradual tanners are hands down the winner for English roses. Use once every couple of days to build the colour slowly until you reach the desired shade. Try mixing some with your favourite moisturiser for the subtlest of glows.
Now you’re preened, prepped and you’ve picked your product it’s time to put your tan plan to action;
‘If you shower before tanning make sure it’s in cool water, hot water opens pores and causes fade.’ Michaella Bolder, Celebrity Facialist.
1. Apply your body lotion or moisturiser (make sure it’s oil free!) over any particularly dry areas; ankles, feet, wrists and elbows.
2. When you tan, always start from the bottom and work upwards – from your ankles to your thighs and from your wrists to your neck.
3. Leave your feet and hands until last – don’t apply more self-tan for these areas just use up the excess which is left on your tanning mitt. Put your hands into a claw-like position to evenly cover knuckles.
4.After you’ve finished applying your tan, take a small amount of body lotion over the top of your hands and feet to remove any smudges and ensure a seamless golden finish.
‘Add extra product onto your mitt and blend at the sides of your tummy, do the same down the inside of your legs and at your hips this will act as a slimming effect and highlight muscular tone to add definition to your body shape.’ says Michaella Bolder.
For the best, seamless & smudge-free tan, sleep in your tan overnight to let it develop for longer – but, invest in the non-tinted version so your white sheets stay white!
